Juelz Santana Supports Remy Ma

Juelz Santana has had to deal with his fair share of legal issues recently. The rapper was arrested on various drugs and weapons-related charges following a January raid on his New Jersey studio. Santana's on issues may have compelled him to feel some sympathy for incarcerated femcee Remy Ma. Remy learned last week that her appeal had been denied and her seven-year sentence will be upheld.

"Free Remy," Juelz said during an interview with radio personality Steph Lova. "It's an unfortunate situation. They trying to put me in a similar situation, God forbid. But you know, Remy'll be home soon. She's strong, strong. She's stronger than a lot of n*ggas out there. So I know she's holding her head, I know she's good."

Olivia Isn't Feeling Somaya Reece

The new trailer for former G-Unit rapper Olivia's upcoming "Love & Hip Hop" VH1 series indicated tension between her and rapper Somaya Reece, but Olivia dismissed Reece in a recent interview and said the two stay away from each other.

"There was never a relationship with her," Olivia told SOHH. "Chrissy [Lampkin], Emily [Bustamante] and I were the ones shooting the show together and they brought her in as the last girl for what you saw on TV. That [promo] clip you see her was actually for the show, so it came out early and people thought it was a crazy beef and I actually do not mess with that girl at all. So that's what that is. No. I'm definitely not her friend. Just because you see us on the show [doesn't mean anything]. I'm not fronting for the cameras at all. So you'll be able to tell who I like and who I don't like."

Waka Flocka's Fozzie

Waka Flocka Flame appears to be bouncing back from the shooting incident in North Carolina. The Atlanta rapper was spotted at various spots around Los Angeles during Oscar weekend. He was also reportedly sporting a huge golden Fozzie Bear chain.

According to TMZ, Waka got a $100,000 gold and diamond replica of Fozzie Bear from The Muppets.

For those who don't know, Waka's rap name was apparently inspired by Fozzie's famous "Wocka-wocka-wocka!" catchphrase.

And no--there was absolutely no better way for him to spend his money.

Is Da Brat Free?

Is Da Brat Free?

It looks like Da Brat is home after serving two and a half years of a three year sentence following an assault conviction. The fiery rapper hit a waitress over the head with a bottle at a nightclub in an Atlanta suburb back in 2008. While Da Brat will remain on probation for another seven years, her pal Jermaine Dupri tweeted that the Chicago-born femcee is back amongst the free.

"Happy day for me and all SO SO DEF fans," Dupri tweeted. "Da Brat is finally home."

Just days after Remy Ma's appeal was denied and with Foxy Brown embarrassing herself daily, its good to have some positive news in the female rapper universe for a change.

Wale & Kid Cudi Squash Beef

COME SHO UR MIDHOOD REAPREZENTA CUTTHROAT SUM LOV & SUPPORT CHECK THIS OUT.

Rappers Wale and Kid Cudi have been engaged in an alt-rap war of words for the past year or so. Things seemingly went sour after Cudi said that he and Wale didn't 'click' anymore, to which Wale responded that he didn't know why he and Cudi were no longer friends. After some barb-slinging regarding each other's rhyme skills, things quieted down. Now, it looks like the two are looking to put the tension behind them.

"@wale yooo," Cudi tweeted. "its never too late to make things right." To which, Wale responded, "@wizardcud yo. We back cuz ... GOOD x MMG ...of course"

Wale seemed to be hinting at possible future work between Cudi's G.O.O.D. Music and Wale's Maybach Music, imprints headed by Kanye West and Rick Ross, respectively.

Get Your Music Heard By 50 Cent’s Label, Thanks to SoundCloud & Ning Brenna Ehrlich 14 days ago by Brenna Ehrlich 4 111Share email share Share 111 email share Thanks to Ning’s recent integration with SoundCloud, musicians can now submit their songs to ThisIs50.com, the Ning community dedicated to 50 Cent’s G-Unit Records, for a chance to be featured on the site. Ning announced last week a new intregation with SoundCloud that lets users feature customizable music players on their pages, access previously uploaded SoundCloud files and review uploaded tracks from members before posting. Thisis50.com is taking full advantage of the latter feature with Independent Fridays, a new contest that asks indie (unsigned) artists to submit their songs via SoundCloud for the chance to be seen by G-Unit A&Rs. The best song will be featured on Thisis50.com every week. According to Jonathan Hull, director of strategic relationships of Ning, Thisis50.com is one of the most popular Ning networks. “It’s become a really, really relevant news source and entertainment source for hip-hop,” he says. Corentin Villemeur, new media director of G-Unit Records, says that the site started as merely a fan community for 50 Cent, but now it’s much more about hip-hop culture — about 50% of users call themselves rappers. “Every member on the site works hard to be seen and get some shine in the community,” Villemeur says. This new venture should yield said shine. According to Villemeur, getting signed by G-Unit is not the end goal, but it is a possibility. The first round yielded around 1,500 submissions, and the winning song, “Get Paper,” has been listened to more than 8,000 times. (We’ve embedded it below.) “I was surprised by the quality of the songs we received. J.J. Rosen Named CEO of Indaba Music; Queen Latifah Appointed Co-Chair of Board of Directors

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Indaba Music (www.IndabaMusic.com), the online home for more than 550,000 musicians around the world, has announced that music industry veteran J.J. Rosen has joined the company as CEO. Last week it was announced that Queen Latifah was appointed co-chair of Indaba’s Board of Directors. Indaba Music is the definitive marketplace for the creation of new music online, featuring the leading professional network for musicians, an online music production platform, digital distribution, and an Opportunity Marketplace where brands, entertainment companies, and labels can source new music and talent.

Rosen was previously Executive Vice President of Sony Music Entertainment’s Commercial Music Group. He joined SME in 2002 when it acquired Run Tones, the mobile entertainment company he co-founded and led as CEO. Before Run Tones, Rosen was a co-founder and President of N2K, an Internet music pioneer which went public in 1997. Indaba co-founders and previous co-CEOs Matthew Siegel and Dan Zaccagnino will remain active as Chief Operating Officer and Chief Strategy Officer, respectively.

“I first became aware of Indaba Music while evaluating digital music opportunities at Sony. Indaba is best known by major labels and artists as the leader in aligning its huge base of talented musicians with superstars to facilitate new collaborations and recordings,” said Rosen. “But as I learned more about Indaba’s broader vision, I became increasingly excited about the role the company is poised to play in reshaping the music industry.”

“Indaba Music has grown considerably since we launched in 2007, and is now poised to expand on its formidable leadership position in the market. J.J. has a proven track record of leading music startups to commercial success, and our new co-Chair Queen Latifah is one of the most respected celebrities and artists in the industry,” said Co-Founder Matthew Siegel.

Musician, actress and businesswoman Dana Owens, known professionally as Queen Latifah, has made a significant investment in Indaba Music and joins Martha Crowninshield, general partner emerita of the internationally recognized private equity firm, Boston Ventures, as co-chair of Indaba Music’s Board of Directors.

“Twenty years ago, as an up-and-coming musician, I had to struggle for opportunities,” recalls Latifah. “What Indaba Music is doing today, is putting the tools for artistic creation and success right in the hands of the people. It’s really exciting to see how Indaba Music empowers people to both create and then reap the rewards from their art.”

About Indaba Music
